The CATS Division board members would like to thank everyone who sponsored, presented at, and attended the 2nd annual CATS Winter Workshop! It was quite the success, partly due to the weather actually cooperating this year, and partly because all of the amazing librarians (and others) who were there!
The entire clowder of CATS in attendance voted in the Mock Newbery election during lunch at the workshop, and drumroll please… the winner of the 2015 Mock Newbery is Port Chicago 50 by Steve Sheinkin! We also chose two honor books: the delightfully creepy Night Gardener by the delightfully handsome Jonathan Auxier and, in a stunning not-so-upset, write-in vote, Brown Girl Dreaming by Jacqueline Woodson. If you haven’t read these works, check them out (at your local library). We’ll see if our choices come close when the winners are announced at ALA Midwinter.
In bittersweet news, the new year brings with it new CATS board members, so I (Andrea Cleland) will be hanging up my whiskers and passing the laser pointer to a new member at large, Brenda Pritchard. She will bring you yarns and tails of the innovative and collaborative things the CATS team will be doing throughout the year. This year has been fun, and I thank the CATS board and all the wonderful librarians I have met and worked with throughout the year. Stay sparkly, people. I’m sure I will still see you around, but until then, peace out, and thanks for being claw-some.
