Library Services for Children Journal Club

Hello, fellow CATS members! A couple of weeks ago I, Lu Benke, went to an exciting venture in children’s services in Colorado–the Library Services for Children Journal Club. This first time we met Saturday evening, Nov. 4 at the Book Bar on Tennyson in Denver. And, we came prepared to discuss two articles written about the role of Executive Function (EF) in children’s development and preparedness for school, what activities help develop EF, and how we might apply the research we read to children’s library services. This sprang from an effort started in Vancouver (https://lscjournalclub.org/). Locally, Jessica Fredrickson (Arapaho) and Julie Craig (DPL) are organizing it. The plan is to meet every two months or so, read research articles on major topics related to children’s services, and through stimulating discussion with children’s librarians in the area, learn how we might apply the latest and best research from the field. The next meeting in January will use an article by key researchers on how to evaluate educational apps. Anyone interested in joining us (you don’t have to be from the Denver area) can contact Jessica at  jfredri2@g.emporia.edu
