Andrea Cleland
• I work at the Clearview Library District in Windsor, and I reside in Fort Collins.
• I am an Early Literacy Librarian.
• CATS has put me in contact with many FABULOUS librarians who inspire me all the time. Also, the CATS workshops always give me ideas to implement in my library.
• Too many to choose one! Yoga storytimes are my current fave, but I have loved our annual early literacy fair, the summer reading events for little ones, my preschool book club, and the monthly STEM events for preschoolers.
• Blogs are my favorite tools. I love seeing what other libraries have done and are doing. Library Makers is one that I “steal” from all the time, and Bryce Don’t Play has the best gifs ever.
• Storytimes (and programming in general!) are by far my favorite aspects of my job.
• Favorite quote: Walk out like someone suddenly born into color. – Rumi
• Books at my bedside: Shakti Mantras by Thomas Ashley-Farrand and Pablo Neruda’s Essential Poems
• The children’s book character I relate to the most is Dorrie the Little Witch from the series by Patricia Coombs. Dorrie’s mother is the Head Witch and is very important and responsible. Dorrie is always late and getting into trouble, and her socks never match. That’s about right for me.
• The superhero ability I wish I had would be the power to talk to animals. Don’t laugh. If I were in trouble in NYC, and I called all the rats to come save me, you wouldn’t be laughing then, would ya. 😉
• I don’t know about interviewing anyone, because interviewing someone sounds boring to me. (Sit still, what?!?!) But if I could see any musical act, dead or alive, you would find me at a Janis Joplin show.
• My hope for children and teen services is for those who don’t work with children to realize how important it is. If we want the world around us to thrive, we need to help form little humans who care about the well-being of the environment, each other, and themselves. We need kiddos who see the world with gratitude, love, and intelligence. Librarians are in the perfect position to foster that cooperative spirit (what is a library if not the ultimate place of sharing), as well as curiosity and intellect.
